Aiguillettes
Aiguillettes
Today, there is an overwhelming variety of different aiguillette models.
The simplest ones are made from a single round cord.
The more elaborate and intricate the braid, the more time is required for its craftsmanship.
The number of loops and braids also plays a significant role.
Typically, the aiguillette is worn with or without metal tips.
Before production, it is important to clarify with the customer whether the aiguillette is for the left or right shoulder.
This ensures that we can craft the braid in the correct style.
Especially high-quality royal aiguillettes are even worn around the neck.
The German Bundeswehr now uses only a few aiguillettes, which are used for ceremonial purposes (aides to officers or generals).
Suitable materials include braided round cords made of cotton or viscose and various colored foil yarns.
The most high-quality variants are still made of silver-plated or gold-plated copper wire with metallic yarns.
Military authorities around the world are generally using fewer aiguillettes, although they are still frequently used in dress uniforms for military and police ceremonies.
