Buttons
Buttons
Typically, buttons are objects attached to clothing items.
It was therefore natural that buttons on uniforms were used with a buttonhole or loop to fasten the garment.
Later, buttons were added to shoes, bags, and other items, often for decorative purposes.
The manufacturing processes for metal buttons are distinguished by two main elements:
1. Crimped Buttons
Here, the button is made from a cap and shell that curve into each other during the process.
This results in a button consisting of two parts.
The fastening is added separately.
If necessary, intermediate materials are inserted to give the button extra weight.
2. Die-Casting Process
Here, the buttons are made using a casting process.
At the same time, the corresponding fastening is attached.
Button materials are usually brass or nickel silver.
These are then either polished or gold-plated, and in rare cases, painted in color.
Fastenings typically include short loops, medium loops, long loops, as well as specialties like screw threads, cotter pin attachments, and much more.
Classic buttons with holes are usually made from tagua nut, PVC, or similar synthetic materials.
